I received a call back in Jan from Nici Haerter from Florida. Nici is an Avid Angler, Freelance Sports Writer & Professional Musician. Nici wanted to do a story on the Peacock Bass, a bucket list fish, so she called on yours truly. Nici writes for Coastal Angler & Adventure Sports Outdoor magazines & others. So I decided to take them to one of my favorite locations , “The Blue Lagoon”. Joining her was her husband Skip and mother Joann. The day started out with a few missed strikes, but once she got the hand of things the connection was made. All three anglers were successful in putting the peacock Bass in the boat and making for some great shots. Nici stated that if she caught a Trophy Peacock Bass that not only will it make the magazine , but also the Cover story. Well caught around 11:30 she tossed her shiner at a point , then her spool started singing , thinking it was a Tarpon or a Snook, and here’s what she caught , a 6 .5 LB.  Butterfly Peacock Bass.   So, The Hawghunter , Capt. Frank Carbone is going to be in the April edition of Coastal Angler Magazine . The peacock bass fishing has been excellent since JAN. and April is one of the prime months to score a “Trophy”. Enjoy the article and give us a call and see for yourself why everyone feels these scrappy fighters pound for pound are the hardest fighting freshwater species.

The bite on Lake Okeechobee has continued to be successful , even with the windy conditions and drop in water Temp. On every trip this past week “The Hawghunter”, Capt. Frank Carbone and licensed guides have caught Bass over 5 Lb with the largest being 10.5 caught by a MN. Angler. Most of the bigger Bass are coming on Wild Shiners by pitching them up to the floating mats and cuts with running water. Also while using artificial baits the new Gambler Fat Ace (sanko style) or EZ swimmers using a Strong X-point hook. on braided line has been working the best. The reason for this is that they are in the heavy cover. When the sun comes up that’s where they are.The Next day I had long time client russ Giananotti, from NY as he hold up his biggest of 34 a nice 8.5 Lb. Okeechobee Lunker. Then there were a couple of good Old Jersey Boys, Izzy May and his cousin Bob, They had a fantastic day catching 47 bass up to 7 lb. with a few 6 ‘s 5 and several between 3-4 LB. If you go to our site you will see many of the bass are full of eggs, so now is the time to catch your Trophy “HAWG” while we are in the spawning season.
