Our flight from Miami to Manaus was great. We were met at the airport by a driver and a English speaking guide set up by Jorge. after checking into the Tropical Manaus (which by the way was a very nice place) we went and had a great seafood lunch. After lunch went for a drive through town to the fish market,  what a very interesting place. Went back to hotel hang around the pool. That evening went to a Brazilian steakhouse for dinner.   We were taken to the airport and boarded a  plane to Barcelos. After a short 45 minute flight arrived at the Barcelos airport. A van took us to the mother ship (TUCUNA AMAZON). A very nice boat, large deck up top, nice dining room and comfortable sleeping quarters, bunk beds with A/C.  Jorge and the crew were great very nice and helpful.       The first day my son Brandon and I caught 18 fish from 4-13 lbs. Steve our other friend caught 8 fish from 3-9 lbs. Val told us it would get better in a day or two. Told us we would catch some big fish and he was right. I did hook a solid 20 pounder on a white body red headed woodchopper. What a thrill.       I caught a 22 pounder on a jig very exciting I actually saw the fish come and grab the jig. Later that day Brandon hooked a 20 pounder on a white body chartreuse head high roller lure. , I was fishing with a jig and a big 22 pounder could not resist it. What a beautiful fish.       About 30 minutes after I caught that fish, I threw my lure in a tree my guide was headed over to get it out, as he was reaching to unhook from tree we heard a huge explosion behind us. while we were getting lure from tree Brandon was fishing off the back he just hooked a big fish, guide kept yelling big fish big fish. This fish was strong trying to get in the trees...

They had a ball catching over 35 fish including Mylan Cichlids, Largemouth Bass and of course several Peacock Bass up to 4 lb.                                                                                                                 The next day they headed to the famed “Lake Okeechobee” , for some explosive action. Once again Melissa out fished dear old Dad. Marv had his chance but lost a possible 10 lb. Bass as we watched it jump and spit the hook.   Together they caught between 35- 40 largemouth with 2 Gar and one big Bofin.        The fishing has been great and this year I feel” The Lake” will do exceptionally well, with the way the water conditions are. Our peak season is coming so if your thinking about getting out of the cold this winter , I suggest you book your dates early.   Capt. Frank Carbone , “The Hawghunter”, and Guides work 7 days a week and waiting to take you Fishing.

Today was a great day for Charlie Vogelsand from St Lous , MO. as he battled in a Trophy Male Butterfly Miami Peacock Bass. This fight took every bit of 8-10 mins. to bring in being Charlie only has 10 lb. test line on . With a quality line by Vicious and a sharp # 1 Daiichi Bleeding Hook helped to successfully land this “HAWG”.   Now we can’t forget the birthday boy Tony Gianino also from STL as he had the most catches. Together this Duo caught over 40 Bass , besides the monster they also had a 4.3 Lb. and 4 over 3 lb.     This was an enjoyable day as we talked most of the day about The Good Italian food from “The Hill” if your from MO. you’ll know what I mean. Doug with clients Carl and his son from Florida caught over 30 Bass up to 7.5 lb. some were caught on Wild shiners the others on top water plastics, and Gambler Ace.     Next I took out David Ramey with girlfriend Patty from Florida. As always my boat is loaded with lady Luck and Patty caught the largest Bass and the most fish this day.         A lot of the success is do to a strong sharp hook , I feature X-Point or Daiichi Hooks, for the best penetration and strongest forged steel .       The fishing has been good all over South Florida regardless If I take you to Miami for Peacock Bass, or The Everglade’s or Lake Okeechobee for largemouth Bass.   Here is why South Florida is one of the fishery in the world. This is the only place you can catch both Peacock Bass and Big Largemouth Bass on the same trip. This nice couple Heather Campbell & John Nguyen from Arkansas had a great two days of fishing.   They started out in Miami for Florida Peacock Bass , and on the very first cast, Heather caught this 4 lb. beauty. She then proceeded to catch 4 other before John caught his first, we won’t tell the size it was.     John then came back with his big one of the day.     By 10:00 am we were out of bait, they had gone through 7 doz. shiners, this was the first time we had run out so early.   After 33 peacock bass 5 Milan’s. and 1 Largemouth the couple decided to go back to the Hotel, for a cool drink.   On day two it was all Heather, as Lady Luck strikes again. We headed out to The Everglades, at the break of dawn. On the second cast,” it was on”, as we started to catch several Bass. Heather was using her favorite bait, a fluke within 20 mins. her rod bent over  she battled and landed her Big Bass of the day, a nice Florida 6 lb. Lunker.    John was worming doing very well also ,he was working the bottom with a Gambler 10 ” Worm with a 4/0 X-Point Hook.     Heather then struck again with another nice bass , and by 11 am they both had enough bass and sun and again opt to go in. The count was over 40 Bass up to 6 lb.   So the summer pattern is on, and if you have some time, so does “The Hawghunter”, Capt. Frank Carbone who guides 7 days a week.

Had a Great time on Lake Okeechobee yesterday, with Bill & Charlotte Killiam from AR.Once again Lady Luck prevales as Charlotte single handed land Her True Trophy Okeechobee “HAWG” 9.12 LB. 28″ X 17 ” girth. Can you imagine if this bass wasn’t spawned out.   The day started out with Bill catching a 1 pounder , from that point the couple took turns  then Bill landed a nice 4 + lb. I discovered that the bigger bass were deeper in the grass , so we started pitching into the pockets. Then it happened, Charlotte setup on a bass as she set the hook the pole bent over . I wasn’t sure if it was a big bass or she was just wrapped up in the weeds. Then the bass broke loose and bolted to the right and that rod was bent all the way over in the open water. When I saw the back on this bass I knew she had an Okeechobee Lunker.  I then started yelling at Bill to get everything out of the way so not to loose this Monster bass. Well as you can she victory was hers. NOW here is the best part of this story. this is one for the books. As Charlotte was hold up her trophy for Pictures , the bass jumped out of her hand hit the deck and bounced back into the water before pictures were taken. Everything went quite , with disappointment. As I bent over to pick up me phone that I dropped, I looked and there was her Bass tired and up against the weeds , just staying there. I felt I had one shot at her , so I plunged the net in front of her and the bass did just what I wanted, spooked forward into the net. “What a Day”.This was a Great friendly couple from Arkansas and I will look forward to having them back again. Also Charlotte released her bass for the next angler to catch , “YOU”.This is why People around the World come to Lake Okeechobee in hopes of fulfilling a dream of...

Last month fishing for Peacock Bass had it’s up and downs. If the clients hit the days that weren’t effected by the Rain turned up water and fast moving run offs they caught their 20 + days. For the ones that hit it right after the rain their days were as low as 3-10 fish. At least everyone caught fish. Jim Ezinga had a great day fishing with his son as he caught a Trophy Peacock    Then Bob Brenley the TV announcer for the Chicago Cubs went fishing with 3 of his players. Also had a nice day on the water. As Short Stop Blake Dewitt hold his peacock with reliever James Russell in the Background    Rick Di Donato and his two Son couldn’t ask for a better day as this great trio scored some nice Peacocks      Randy Hammond made the mistake by bringing out his wife fishing as she out fished him   You Fly- fisherman will love this Father and Son team Paul Zanetti we had some nice videos to go along with pictures.   Next I help out a fellow guide with some NY Met’s, they had a bit of a rough day but still landed 15 all together. Afterwards we headed over to Sonia’s for a great lunch with our Mets Pitchers   Now the following day I had a Father & Son Dave & Jon Sherman, that were Met fans from NY, that came down for the games. They hammered the heck out of the Peacock Bass in the same spot. Well at least the Mets played better baseball against the Marlins, LOL   A Real Beauty   Remember Peacock Bass is year round in Florida , so come on the they like the Hot weather , remember where they came from , “The Amazon”.
