This past weekend I had a nice couple from NC Brian & Wanda Grice. Wanda being the nice wife that she is gave this to t her husband as Christmas gift. On day one we headed to Blue Lagoon for a day of fishing for Peacock bass. Well my favorite weather girl lied to me , Julie said there was going to be no rain until late afternoon. Well needless to say she was wrong, and got drenched. The wind and rain never let up the entire day.   Brian started thing off with a Mylan cichlid, and Wanda catching her first peacock bass.   With the wind blowing strong we headed to the canals. the water was cleaner and the fishing was better. By noon and totally soaked we went to Sonia’s for a great Cuban lunch. Now on day 2 , it was a totally different day it was beautiful no wind and mostly sunny and a high of 84 degrees. Thing started out with the same as yesterday with the couple on their first cast catching these 2 nice fish Brian with a nice 6 lb Bass and Wanda with a peacock Bass over 4 lb. 19.5 “. They caught several peacock & largemouth bass Brian even battled a huge blue cat. The great thing about fishing South Florida it’s the only place you can catch both species on the same trip. After the 2 Days of fishing Brian caught the biggest Largemouth and Wanda catching the biggest Peacock Bass which she is mounting as this was her biggest fish she ever caught. After they battled these peacock bass they are looking to join me this fall in The Amazon. So get out of the cold and join me this winter and see what all the talk is about with these hard fighting Bass.

In the past two day’s the Peacock Bass fishing has been good. First up I had a Father and Son team Mike & Graham Cole from North Florida. They wanted only to fish with lures, so that’s what we had done catching 10 including some largemouth and a cichlid.   The peacock’s were all caught on Castaic and Reaction Strike jerkbaits which was the lure of choice while we were film the TV show Bass Dr. which will air on WFN this winter.   The action started as soon as the sun broke through the clouds, as Graham started things off. Mike struggled in the beginning, setting the hook in the morning, but that afternoon was things were better for him.   Next day I had a great couple referred to me by a family member a repeat client of mine. Mike and Crissie Gordon from California. This couple just destroyed the Peacock Bass pitching live bait deep. This was celebrating their 15 th anniversary , and in  less then 4 hrs. managed to put 26 peacock bass into the boat up to over 4 LB. caught by Crissie. It’s clients like these that makes my job enjoyable. Come on down and see what all the talk is about , with catching Peacock Bass, pound for pound the strongest fighting freshwater fish.   Today I had this great couple from Louisiana, Ryan Porter and his girlfriend Amanda . What split day is, I give you the best of both world’s. You get both species in two different locations. We started out in The Everglades this couple caught over 70 Bass all on artificial plastics by Gambler Baits. Amanda out fish her man , and never put the Ace bait down. The lure of choice today was the Ace color didn’t matter, also EZ swimmers, jerk baits and topwater. Although most of the bass were between 1-2 LB. Ryan did slam a nice 4.5 LB. two over 3 LB. By 11:30 the decision was made to attack the Peacock Bass. As soon as we got to our next fishing hole the storm came making the fishing tough with 25 + mph winds. Once the storm passed they caught 10 Peacock Bass and guess who caught the biggest, “What a fight”. I fish 12 months out of the year, just waiting to hear from you. Capt. Last week I had three generations onboard , longtime client Harry Blair from NY with his Son Joe and Grandson Sawyer from Chicago . What a gorgeous  day to be on the “Lake”. The day started out catching mostly 2-3 lb. bass. then 7 year old Sawyer by himself set the hook and landed this Trophy 6 lb. largemouth.  After that catch he was telling Dad how to fish., LOL. Then the glory was passed over to Joe when his rod bent way over as he battled his Trophy Okeechobee “HAWG” and the third 10 Lb. of the year. Wow, what a fish 27-3/4 ” x 18 ” Girth. The best part of this trip was three generations’s of Blair’s fishing together, and that is what is really all about, catching the fish is second. I always say a family that fishes together stays together. Next month I will again enjoy harry and his other two grandson’s. We are in our peak season now so book a date with “The Original Hawghunter”, Capt. Frank Carbone 954-325-1115

The past three days I had the opportunity to guide Melvin Ward and his fishing buddy and long time friend Pat Brogdan from California .   On day one I took the boys down south into Miami for some Peacock Bass the friends caught over 30 fish with some really nice size.     In the late morning I had spotted a nice large male , but couldn’t get him to take the bait. So we continued down the canal catching peacock bass and other species. A Double   As it was getting near the end of the day we went back to try our luck with that Trophy Peacock Bass, after a good ten minutes, Mel’s rod bent over, the spool starting singing and the fight was on.  Melvin got what he came hear for a 6.lb. 3oz. 26 ” L X 17 ” Girth a Florida Trophy Butterfly Peacock Bass. Day 1 went to Mel. Now on day two we went north to The Famed Lake Okeechobee, where the fishing has been excellent. The boys fished with wild Shiners, the entire day catching again over 30 Bass . Most of these were caught in the morning. due to the fact a cold front came through, after it had past the bite picked up again.   Then it happened to Pat, he hooked into a Okeechobee “HAWG” , never expecting it to be the size that it was because the Bass charged the boat and the fight wasn’t on until she was near the boat. Also on this day the boys had 3 doubles. to top off a second great day, This day was all Pat’s. catching the most and biggest. Now day three was back for some more Peacock Bass action. They caught everything from Peacock Bass to Midas Chidlets, including Largemouth . That the good thing about fishing South Florida, you can catch both species on the same Trip. Mid-day we headed over to my favorite Water Front Cafe , Sonia’s for a fantastic lunch . This was and well rounded Trip for both Mel & Pat and may be joining me...
