Amazon Peacock Bass Expedition
Trophy fish, hosted weeks, and a remote lodge in the Brazilian rainforest.
What the Amazon Trip Is Like
The Amazon basin is the only place on earth where peacock bass grow to their full size. The Florida butterfly peacock you can catch in a Miami canal is the same family — but the Amazon parent species runs three to five times bigger. Trophy fish on this trip are 15 to 20 pounds. A 25-pound peacock is on the table.
The trip is a hosted week. You fly into Manaus, Brazil. From there the HawgHunter team handles the transfer to the lodge — usually a charter flight or boat into the basin. Once you're in, every meal, every guide, every fishing day is included. You bring rods if you want; we have them if you don't.
This isn't a trip you book and figure out on your own. It's a trip Frank has been running for years, with the same lodge partners, the same guides, and the same standards as a Florida day on the water. Same captain, bigger fish.
The Trip
A typical Amazon week is six full days of fishing, bookended by travel. You'll fish in pairs from a guide-driven boat — most clients alternate top-water and jigs, depending on the water and what's working that week. Mornings are usually the strongest bite. Afternoons are about covering water and finding the bigger fish.
Lodge accommodations are private rooms with full meals — Brazilian cooking, plenty of it, three meals a day. Most lodges have a bar, hammocks, and a deck looking over the river. Internet is patchy. That's part of the deal.
"Florida peacock bass max out around 9 to 12 pounds. The Amazon parent species runs 15 to 20 regularly with shots at 25-plus. There's nothing else like it in fishing."
We run hosted weeks during the dry season — September through February — when water levels drop and peacock bass concentrate. Spots are limited and the best dates fill first. Once you book, we walk you through travel, gear, and what to expect.
