WOW ! What away to end 2011 for Bill Dean from Georgia with a 10 lb. Okeechobee “Hawg”. Bill has been a client for the past 12 years and we always had a good time , but nothing like this trip.
We decided to sit back, relax, and fish wild shiners all day, this turn out to be a great choice.
After Bill missed the first three one being a 7 + , he started to connect with his first one.
Then he got a double.
After 6 more in the 3 – 5 LB. range he connected with what he thought would be his biggest, a 8 lb. lunker.
As the wind kicked up I decided go move deeper in the High Grass , first shiner caught a 4 lb. and in the next was his trophy 10.4 oz. life time Bass. This was one of those moments when the boy comes out of the man. Bill has never experienced a day of fishing like this, totaling 25 bass mostly over 3 lb.

Lake Okeechobee is on fire right now and if you want to catch that Big Bass now is the time and Capt. Frank Carbone , “The Original and Only Hawghunter” know where to find them. We are into our busy season which is also the prime season for bass, so book early while there are still some choice date’s.
Good Fishin’
WOW! what a day for Chris & Barb King from Wisconsin. This couple of cheese heads had some heck of a day.
Barb started thing off with the first catch of the day.
It didn’t take Chris long to answer back, with a handful of 3-4 lb. bass, until This “HAWG”, came flying out of the water after he set the hook on a 9 lb. Okeechobee Bass .
Then Barb had the catch of the day a big old Catfish
Chris is a repeat clients of several , but this was the first time I had the pleasure of meeting Barb. Couples like these two is what mades my job so enjoyable.
Chris then came back with one close to 9 lb. What a Day
This was a day of fishing with wild Shiners on The “Big “O”
Capt. Frank Carbone and Staff of Hawghunter Guides want to wish you all a Season Greeting and a Happy & Healthy New Year
Lake Okeechobee is on fire now with “BIG BASS”. No matter if we are using Live Wild Shiners or Artificial Baits the clients are catching them up to 8 LB. you can expect over 20 bass with over 20 lb. bag.
If your coming down for the Holiday’s , call now to reserve your day on the Water with “The Hawghunter”, CAPT. FRANK CARBONE.
The month started out with John Hierholzen from Lear Jet with their client Luiz from Brazil. The entire day the boys threw Gamblers Big EZ’s and Ace plastics. Nothing is better then that top water explosion. Luiz had a great time , but found it a little harder to set the hook on Florida Bass, because in the Amazon the monster Peacock Bass hook themselves.
Then there was honeymoon couple Liz & Tracey Ruch from Arkansas, this was a great couple that I had a good time with. Both experienced a fantastic day on the Big Lake. Liz out fished her hubby 13 to 6 which gave her the bragging right for the entire ride home. In all do respect Tracey did catch the biggest.
Then there was repeat client Mike Benowitz from Pembroke Pines with his 7 year old Son Josh. This day was all wild shiners, the action was non stop right to the end. Of course Josh caught the biggest, the hard part for Josh was holding the Lunker for the Picture. This was a great day as father & Son shared quality time on the water together.
Happy Holiday’s , from Capt. Frank Carbone & Hawghunter Guide Service.
What a beautiful day it was for fishing on Lake Okeechobee . Robert Garver from Kansas might have thought ” that there’s know place like home” until he fished the Big “O” today.
The day started out with Robert on his 4 th cast ignited the first strike. Most of the day we through Gamblers Big EZ, as a matter of fact every Bass was caught on that bait.
As the day went on it was steady action . Then he caught a nice 4 lb.
We mostly fished the outer grass lines of the Islands, in the heavy cover with Vicious 50 lb. braid with a good strong 5/0 wide gap X-point hook.
Every time we moved Mike seemed to catch another good bass this time a 5 lb.
The wind was out of the NE at about 5-10 MPH with some great cloud cover, just a perfect. Towards the end of the day we decided to go to our morning spot where there was good action.
After about 10 mins. the Big fish of the day was caught a Nice 6 lb. Okie Bass.
We estimated a 20 Lb. bag to complete a fantastic day on the water. With the lake up 3 feet , you can now run to your favorite spots once again. Come Join Capt. Frank Carbone & Hawghunter Guide Service while the conditions are just right “NOW”. Good Fishin’
After a very successful Trip last year, David & Max Bahr from Minn. came back for some more exciting Florida fishing with , “The Hawghunter, Capt. Frank Carbone.
On day 1 we hit the Everglade’s for some non stop action , mostly top water . The boys caught over 60 Bass up to 4 lb. As Dave hold up his catch.
On day 2 the boys went down to Miami for some strong fighting Peacock Bass, last year Max caught a nice 7 lb. Peacock Bass and the bragging right for that trip.
On this day Dave is holding his nice peacock of the day, which included several others.
The real excitement came on Day 3 when I treated the duo to some fantastic Okeechobee Top Water action using the new Gambler EZ Swimmer, if you haven’t tried this bait go out and get it, it’s the greatest bait since the Flappin’ Shad.
The boys rose 8 bass over 5 lb. but only managed to put 3 big one in the boat.
Here are some of these Big Bass.
Lake Okeechobee is the place to be right now if your looking for big Bass.

Today’s Father & Son team was very special James SR. & James JR. Mauck. Both men are Vets and are proud to be Americans. James Sr. 85 years young fought in WW II , The Korean War and Vietnam, Jr. was in Vietnam at the same time and received a Purple Heart . It men like these that allows us to Fish in Freedom.
One the first day the men hit the Peacock Bass and were amazed by the fight as thousand of Angler before them has.
The boys caught a few Peacock Bass 3 largemouth a 2 Oscars.
The next two days was all largemouth First day was Lake Okeechobee and what a day they had. The boys fish mostly all shiners and boy did it pay off.
After about a dozen Bass with the largest being about 3 LB. I headed to my other Fishing Hole.
Once there Jr. on his first shiner hooked into a nice 7 LB. then a 5 lb and a 4 lb.
On day three we headed to The Everglade’s , catching much more Bass but none were near the size that was caught on the Lake.
This is a great way to fish south Florida , come down for three days and I’ll show what Florida has to offer. Miami for Peacock Bass and Lake Okeechobee and The Everglades for largemouth Bass.
Capt. Frank Carbone , “The Hawghunter”guides 7 days a week.
On this day I had Clients from my home town in New Jersey, Will Anthony his girlfriend Kristen and friend XXX Scott.
They wanted to catch some Big Bass, so I took my chances on a Cold windy day and went North to Lake Okeechobee.
When we got there it was 45 Degrees and windier then expected, which may finding a spot to fish difficult .
After several misses with the hook set , and both Kristen & Scott complaining about how cold it was Will called it a day at 9:30.
With not wanting to leave without a fish, I convinced Will to try one more spot. This decision change the whole day around. We anchored up in a cove off the rim ditch and with the first shiner Will caught about a 2.5 lb. largemouth.
Then the moment came, 5 mins later as this “HAWG” just exploded on his shiner, and the fight was on.
Will got his birthday present a nice Bass around 9LB. , well no one was cold anymore. as the sun came up and being protected by the trees it made for a nice day.
9 lb . Bass
If your coming down to south Florida for the holiday, make your reservation now the date’s are filling up. Happy holiday’s from “The Hawghunter”, Capt. Frank Carbone
Well today I had the pleasure of fishing with Brad Smith # 16 Wide Receiver for the NY Jets.
The day was perfect and the bass were biting especially in the morning. I headed out to pelican bay were I have been catching some nice bass on top water and worms.
Brad started thing off with a nice 3 lb. Bass on a Gambler 10 ” worm , while I was still waiting for my first bite.
We then moved to the inside where we started throwing plastic top water frog, Flappin’ Shads and skinny dippers. we continued to get action for the next hour .
Then Brad setup on a nice lunker with a worm, only to find out the drag was too loose and just couldn’t get the hook in her. He then came back as he went long to catch, this nice Bass on top.
We were fishing some thick cover so we had lost almost as much as we caught , but never the less had a blast watching the explosions.
If Brad and The Jets continue their success we’ll see them in the Super Bowl , then after the season is over he will be back for some “HAWG’s” during the spawning season in February. DEC.- March is the best time of the year for Big Bass and of course is my busiest time of the year also.
So if you looking to get out of the cold weather and join in on the fun, book your date’s now while they are still available. Good Fishin’ Capt. Frank Carbone 954-325-1115
Last week I received a call from a gentleman in the fishing industry , by the name of Kil Song from NJ. He asked to come down to Florida to film a Show on Lake Okeechobee with Korean Pro Angler and TV celebrity Shin Dong Man A.K.A. “Shark”.
Well, four days later we were casting on the “Lake” for top water Largemouth bass.
With a strong wind blowing out of the east, I couldn’t go to my fish, so I went way inside Ritter Island for some great action and to get out of the wind.
I think the biggest Shock to Shark was when I re-spooled his reel with 60 lb. braid, instead of his 12 lb. mono. With some doubts I had asked him to make a long cast into the cover while waiting for the camera to get set up. Well, on his first cast and three cranks of the reel he busted and land a nice 2 lb. to start off the day.
The bait of choice was Gambler’s Big Easy , Flappin’ Shads and skinny dippers.
Most of the bass that we were catching were in the 2-3 lb. range until I busted this beauty.
Around noon we had to out run a storm and ended up in Bay Bottom, once there Shark started throwing spinners baits in the cut and landed three in a row. I had lost a big bass that was chasing shad in the middle that had gotten wrapped around a stick.
Next thing I knew I heard yell and he hooked into this “HAWG”, which put a smile one his face , as this was the biggest Bass of his life.
Needless to say we had a great day, and made a new friend. I have to say this is the first time I had ever fished with a Korean Angler , and it was a true pleasure.
After talking so much about Peacock Bass the film crew and Shark decided to make another show in Miami so on Sunday we were back on the water.
In the first 10 mins. Shark busted a huge Peacock bass , but loaded up on it too soon, and lost it. The top water bite was tough so we ended up swimming jigs and pitching to the peacock’s.
This seemed to be working, by noon the heat was too much for him to handle, so we called it a day with another successful Show to be aired on Korean TV. The Show is called Shark F-TV, and after catching these Peacock Bass, Shark will be joining me in the Amazon which I will be leaving for on Friday , so look for that report next.
Good Fishin’ Capt. Frank Carbone
